Location planning field trip - June 2011

Early morning tracking in the Carpathian forest

Bear tracks
A large part of our field work involves finding where the animals are to study. June is usually warm and dry, but it has been raining now for the past five days. This has caused Laci our tracker some difficulties as many tracks have been washed away.

The footage above was taken by Gal Laszlo - TWP tracker. The boar had passed close to some transhumance shepherds on a neighbouring meadow, triggering the response from the shepherd dogs.

I am yet to see Laszlo carry water into the forest. He prefers to reduce the weight he carries and drinks from forest and mountain streams.

Stopping on the track for a working lunch.
